DAVISON TWP. — A 28-yearold Davison man has been arraigned on murder charges in the death of his 26-year-old girlfriend, who was found dead on the side of the road in the early morning hours of June 2.

Brandon Scott Merrow of Davison has been charged with one count of first degree murder and three additional felony charges in connection with the death of Tyesha Kemp.

Merrow, according to Assistant Prosecuting Attorney John Potbury, was quickly identified as a suspect in her death and was arrested.

He was arraigned Tuesday before Judge Mark Latchana and he was denied bond on the murder charge. He is due back in court June 14.

Kemp was unresponsive when police and emergency personnel found her body along Davison Road, between Aloha Street and Gale Road around 4:15 a.m. She was found without a pulse and was not breathing.

Despite efforts by medical personnel to resuscitate Kemp, she was declared dead at the scene.

Merrow has been charged with first degree premeditated murder, punishable upon conviction by life without parole; failure to stop at scene of an accident when at fault resulting in death, a 15-year felony; witness intimidation, a 10-year felony; and tampering with evidence, a 10-year felony.

He was placed in custody at the scene. Potbury said Merrow allegedly ran Kemp over with his car. Further details were unavailable.

Lt. Corey Haynes of the Davison Township Police Department said the Davison Area Reconstructive Team was called to the scene to investigate the cause of the accident. The incident is still under investigation, he said.

Chief Rick Freeman said in a press release Monday the department is unable to release further information at this time.

“The investigation is complex and ongoing,” said Freeman, in the statement.

The Davison Township Police Department was assisted by the following agencies: Davison City Police, Richfield Township Police, Genesee County Sheriff’s Department, Davison Area Fire Department and Swartz Ambulance.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Det. Mike Angus at 810-653-5656, ext. 7137.
