With springtime weather finally here, classic car owners will once again flock to Main Street on Friday nights to show off everything from muscle cars to Model A’s.

“Davison has one of the best car cruises around,” said DDA Car Cruise director Diane Millington. “We get entries from all over the area and unique cars you won’t see very often.”

Since taking over the cruise in 2011, the DDA has expanded the shows to include classic cars from every generation, as well as more recent sports cars, concept vehicles and even motorcycles.

“In any given week, you can see everything from rat rods to Teslas,” Millington said. “We want to make the event as inclusive as possible.”

In recent years, the city’s cruise season has attracted car owners from all over Mid- Michigan and the state. Millington said that some entries come from as far away as Florida and California—a testament to the show’s growing reach and exposure.

Specific vehicles will also get highlighted each cruise week. May 25 is the launch date for specialty vehicle-themed events, including Buick Night on June 8, Corvette Night June 29 and GTO Night July 27.

One of the season’s most anticipated events is Opening Ceremony night on June 1, which will feature a parade of motorcycles and Winners of the Year from 2017. Starting at Davison City Hall, the procession will end on Main Street and culminate with a Blessing of the Vehicles.

From there, judges will select the 2017 Car of the Year, Bike of the Year and Cardinal's Choice of the Year from last year’s pool of weekly winners.

Lastly, a memorial is planned to honor deceased DDA Car Cruise participants and vehicle owners.

The DDA is also adding new events to spice up the cruise calendar: a Woodstock/ Ladies Night July 13;

American Graffiti Night Aug. 24; and a combined Military/First Responders Night Sept. 14.

To give car show goers more eating options, the DDA is inviting food trucks to set up during cruise season, including Holy Smokes Barbeque and the Phil Zone. The trucks will be located on Main Street at the north end of the cruise beside the Davison Area Library and City Hall.

“We decided to get in on the food truck phenomenon…to give everyone a little variety,” Millington said. “Plus, we hope it draws new people to check out the cars.”

Weather permitting, the car cruise will run every Friday night from 6-8 p.m. until Sept. 21. The one exception is Aug. 17, which is Back to the Bricks week.

Millington said that volunteers are needed to direct traffic, help with parking and judge weekly contests.

“I want to thank everyone that helps out every year and encourage more people to join us,” she said.

“Without my volunteers, the cruise wouldn’t be the same.”
