The Cardinals grabbed a 17-8 lead in the opening frame and kept their foot on the gas the rest of the way to take the win.

Davison flexed its muscle in the second, outscoring Saginaw 23-9 to lead 40-17 by halftime. In the third, Saginaw edged out Davison 22-18 and both teams put up 19 points each in the fourth.

“Tonight, we came out and played one of our best games of the year, and picked a good time to do that,” said Davison coach Robert Hatten. “Saginaw is a really tough team and well-coached team and have been on a roll lately.”

Drew Fleming paced the Cardinals with 24 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Austin Roland chipped in 18 and Kelis Watson had 17. Tyreese Watson added 10 points. Davison was also 29-of-40 from the charity stripe while Saginaw was 13-of-27.

“I felt we handled the press fairly well and really competed on both ends of the court,” Hatten added. “The guys attacked the basket well and really shared the ball well tonight.”

Davison advanced to play Clio (5-15) on Wednesday following press deadlines. Saginaw Arthur Hill (11- 9) and Lapeer (7-12) played in the other district semifinal. Arthur Hill had taken down Kearsley 66-47 on Monday. The winners of the two semifinals will face each other for the district title at 7 p.m. on Friday at Lapeer.
