Tuesday brought the Saginaw Valley League meet to Torzewski Country Park in Lapeer where the boys finished third with 88 and the girls posted a 153 for sixth. Greg Smith led the boys in eighth in 17:13.77, Jason Millis was 13th in 17:27.74, Spencer Torok was 15th in 17:36.80, Tanner Moleski was 23rd in 18:09.12 and Michael Schiestel was 31st in 18:33.28.

For the girls Savannah Sipley in 21st in 22:08.19, Libby Olson clamied 22nd in 22:11.21, Ellie Timmons was 32nd in 22:47.17, Makenzie Brownrigg was 38th in 23:03.60 and Grace Olson came in 40th in 23:09.15.

The Cardinals were at the Marauder Invite at Uncle John’s Cider Mill in St. John’s last Wednesday with both squads placing third. The girls had 77 and the boys 81. Sipley was the top finishing Lady Cardinal in ninth in 21:24.8, Libby Olson was 11th in 21:33.0, Ellie Timmons 13th in 21:36.3, Abby Schiestel 15th in 21:43.0 and Ellie Crandall 29th in 22:10.5.

GOLF

Isabel Mabry’s round of 89 led Davison to an eighth-place finish at the Davison Invitational on Monday. Davison carded a team-total of 409 while Flint Powers Catholic took the tournament with a 352. Ann Arbor Pioneer was second with a 362 and Goodrich was third with a 370. The Lady Cardinals also had a second team compete, finishing 10th with a 502.

Brooke Kalisz carded a 104, Caylee Ries 105 and Taylor Minto 111 to round out Davison’s first team scores. For the second team, Kennady Fox led the way with a 108. Abbey Ross shot a 116, Chloe Evoy had a 125 and Ellary Darling carded a 153.

Last Thursday, the Lady Cardinals placed third at the second Saginaw Valley League cluster of the season, held at Bay County Golf Club. Lapeer took the win with a 180, Bay City Central was second with a 186 and Davison third with a 201. Bay City Western was fourth with a 217 and Bay City John Glenn was fifth with a 252.

Mabry led the team with a 48 and was followed by a 49 from Kalisz. Ries carded a 50 and Minto shot a 54 to round out the Lady Cardinals’ scores.

Davison will be at an invitational today at Forest Lake Country Club before hosting another SVL cluster meet on Tuesday. – A.V.

SWIM

The Davison swim team placed 12th overall of the 14 teams competing in the Fenton Tiger Relays last Saturday. The Cardinals were highlighted by the 200-butterfly team consisting of Maia Manley, Rachel Riopelle, Felicity Connell and Lydia Oppenheim that finished in ninth place in 2:26.6. The Cardinals also came in 10th in the 400-medley with Ashlynn Hopkins, Johanna Osborne, Manley and Riopelle finishing in 5:15.05.

The Cardinals also were defeated by Powers and Bay City in a tri-meet at Kearsley pool. Against Powers, Davison lost 111-75. Emily Moriartey won the 50-freestyle, Osborne won the 500-freestyle and Oppenheimer won the diving competition.

Bay City beat Davison 102-84. Moriartey and Oppenheim repeated as winners in the 50-free and diving, respectively. Osborne, however, won the 200-individual medley. No official times were recorded for this meet. - J.O.
