Speeding stop results in OWI charge

RICHFIELD TWP. — After clocking a speeding car at 89 mph, a Richfield Township police officer made a traffic stop at N. Irish Road and E. Mt. Morris Road at 6:35 p.m., Feb. 4. Upon stopping the speeding driver, a 64-year-old Richfield Township man, the police officer noticed the odor of alcohol coming from the car when he approached, so he asked the driver to undergo a series of sobriety tests, which he failed. He also failed a portable breathalyzer test which showed his blood alcohol content to be .13 — well over the legal limit. The man was placed under arrest and was lodged in the Genesee County Jail.

Two men injured in hit and run crash

RICHFIELD TWP. — A 31-year-old Clio woman was arrested Feb. 7 after she allegedly struck another vehicle at Richfield and Henderson roads and then fled the scene of the crash.

Police said the crash took place in the evening when the driver allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign while northbound on Henderson Road and struck a Chevy Silverado broadside with her Dodge Ram pickup truck.

The impact flipped the Silverado, injuring two Richfield Township men inside — ages 21 and 20. The woman then back her truck out of a ditch, turned around and sped off back the way she came on Henderson.

A witness followed her and communicated with 911 her whereabouts. Davison Township police were looking for the truck when she arrived in the 12000 block of Davison Road and when they moved in on her she parked at a residence and ran from the vehicle.

Police gave chase and she was apprehended. After administering a breathalyzer test, they found the woman had consumed very little alcohol. They then obtained a blood sample which is undergoing testing for possible drug use.

The victims were transported to an area hospital, one suffering from broken vertebrae and the other from whiplash and broken ribs.
