Davison’s wrestlers dominate district mats
     DAVISON — The Cardinals rolled through the first week of the Div. 1 state wrestling tournament last week, squashing Port Huron Northern, 62-9, for the team district title last Thursday, and then qualifying 13 wrestlers with seven champions in the individual district last Saturday at home.

Season winding down for Davison girls
     MIDLAND — With the playoffs laying just over the horizon for the Davison varsity girls’ basketball team on Feb. 27, coach TJ Fischaber has his team peaking at just the right time and it showed on Monday, as the Lady Cardinals took out non-conference rival Midland Dow, 41-34.

Davison boys hold tight to second place in Big Nine
     MIDLAND — The Davison boys’ basketball team swallowed a two-point, 61-59 loss against Midland Dow on the road Tuesday. Davison remains at 4-1 Big Nine, 10-7 overall in second place behind Carman-Ainsworth, 5-0, 11-5. Flint Powers is 1-4, 5-10 and Flushing is 0-5, 1-15, in the last season of the Big Nine.

Unsung heroes
     Last Friday was a complete nightmare for many of us with the unexpected snow that blanketed the area. School buses loaded with high school athletes headed off for basketball games around 3 p.m. with the grass still very much visible and a very worry-free prediction of a light dusting less than one inch of snow.

Davison competes at Public League showcase
     CHELSEA — In preparation for a host of season-ending challenges that includes playing Flushing/Carman- Ainsworth at Iceland Arena this Saturday for the final Big Nine varsity hockey title ever, Davison took part in the Michigan Public High School Hockey showcase last weekend at the Arctic Coliseum.

Fat Guy’s Corner
     The Pebble Beach National Pro-Am provided some awesome golf by Phil "lefty” Mickelson. Big Phil paired with arch rival Tiger Woods and provided the highest television ratings in 15 years at Pebble Beach. The dramatic finish never did materialize between Phil and Tiger. Phil provided the dramatic golf on Sunday, when he trailed by six strokes.

Boys’ squad locks up Big Nine crown
     MACOMB —The Davison boys’ team competed in the Eisenhower High School Doubles Championships at Imperial Lanes last Sunday. The field consisted of over 90 boys’ doubles teams and Tylor Greene and Grant McNally finished in third place.

Davison swim knocks off Flint Kearsley
     FLINT— The Cards swim team really has some momentum rolling now. After continuing to improve all season, the Cardinals really flexed their muscles against Kearsley on Thursday, 116-53, before falling to Lapeer, 89-85.
